First Steps Workshop

Early Literacy Program for Kindergarten and First Grade Students

Grounded in research-based methods and best practices, the First Steps Workshop prepares teachers to build their students' early reading and writing skills. Attendees will also learn practical methods to help their students apply these newly acquired skills to actual reading, with the fully decodable First Steps storybooks.

First Steps Workshop attendees will learn how to:

  • teach phonemic awareness, segmenting, and blending
  • use multisensory techniques, including auditory and visual mnemonics, magnetic boards and letters
  • help students transfer newly acquired phonological skills to real reading
  • address early reading problems using specific instructional techniques
