Letter from Steve
About F.A.S.T. Learning, LLC. - Steve's Corner
Dear F.A.S.T. teachers, tutors, parents and students,
Welcome to an exciting year for F.A.S.T. Learning!
F.A.S.T. has recently received very favorable media attention in Michigan. It has been recognized as an innovative reading program, that offers positive results not only for the struggling reader, but for all emerging readers.
F.A.S.T. Reading vs F.A.S.T. Language Program
About F.A.S.T. Learning, LLC. - Steve's Corner
As noted in other presentations, F.A.S.T. Reading has five starts. The first two starts deal with the phonological stage, including the introduction of consonants, consonant digraphs, and short vowels. Starts three and four focus on the multi-syllable and phrase level, and the fifth start deals with fluency and the application of whole language techniques. These starts allow a clinician or teacher to begin at exactly the level that students’ language and experience deem appropriate. By accurate diagnosis, teachers do not lose any time with their tutoring and make much larger gains in a shorter period of time.

COVERS
The following is a slogan to help remember the six basic syllables. Remember that throughout the program, teachers should be constantly regrouping the sounds into these six syllables, so that students will be more effective in breaking words.Advanced Reading
About F.A.S.T. Learning, LLC. - Steve's Corner
These are some techniques that are very effective once students have broken the code. THRILD is used as a way of previewing a section of a textbook. It should only take five minutes. The key thing to remember is that students are viewing the headings and illustrations throughout the section, and commenting on the illustrations and graphs. The preparation deals with how to arrange a directed reading from a literature book that reinforces Word Attack and comprehension skills. P3 is the foundation of comprehension and it follows a three-stage process.
